Introducing Blair the witch cat! Formerly known as Cricket, Blair has a bit of a back story and has a heartwarming end. There will be lots of photos and videos included.

We’ve been volunteer with a cat rescue Whiskers of Love Cat Rescue and Sanctuary that places cats at a Petco in the Philly area. We’ve been with them for over six years. In August 2024, There was a tortie at the rescue for 10 weeks that we were considering adopting named Amber. She was a younger cat and I wasn’t sure how Pepper would adjust to her. We walked her around Petco in a harness, took videos and share her story on social media while we waited for an application for her furever home. Thankfully, Amber was adopted around the end of of the month. After Amber was adopted, about a day or so later, another tortie was abandoned. She was thrown into the Petco around closing by her previous owner before closing with a can of cat food. Thankfully, the Petco staff were able to grab her and place in her a clean cubby in the adoption center that some of the WOL cats are housed.

We were notified and went in for our normal volunteer day (Thursday). With all of the abandoned cats we've helped with this rescue, she was so sweet, receptive to pets, and loved making biscuits on our lap. She could have been angry, scared, and disassociative after being abandoned just a few days before.

I had a discussion with my Fiancé Jordan before we went in. Although we'd been looking to adopt and concidered Amber since she'd been there for so long, I didn't want to put stress on Pepper. 1 because she's an older Grey and 2 Amber was a very active cat. So I would have loved to had a house where Pepper could have her space and Amber could run around and get all that Tortie energy out. But honestly, I was the one that caved. We walked in and she immediately popped on our laps started purring, made lots of biscuits and was just so friendly.

We talked with all of the amazing people at Whiskers and we went through with a foster to adopt. If Pepper and Cricket worked out, we would officially adopt her. And let me tell you, these two are absolutely adorable together. The first thing Pepper did when Cricket was dropped off was lots and lots of kisses. As the days went on they became more interested in each other. Pepper was still able to come out of her cage and do her birb things, Cricket just watched, cuddled with us, or played with her toys.

As you've all seen, we are huge anime fans. As we were thinking of names and the time of year it is, we thought of Blair (the witch cat) from one of our favorite animes Soul Eater.

Blair the witch cat has fit in with our family so well, and we are over the moon about her. She has also been helping us celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Witches Whiskers coloring book by continuing to inspire us with her personality, playfulness and sometimes bewitching attitude.

A huge shout out and a thank you to Whiskers of Love for all of their help during these last fews months. They do an amazing job making sure these babies have the best care, work hard to help abandoned/abused cats, and provide a second chance by helping them find their furrever homes. So check out their website and donate to help more cats in need or if you’re looking for your next furrever baby, they have lots of kitties up for adoption!
